Lake Chatuge
Lake Chatuge offers picturesque scenery with miles of unspoiled shoreline surrounded by mountains. The lake covers over 7,000 acres in Hiawassee, GA and Hayesville, NC. It was formed by the Tennessee Valley Authority’s construction of the Chatuge Dam in 1942 and named after an 18th-century Cherokee Native American settlement once located near the dam site. The word means “Beautiful” and “Land where the waters meet” as the lake covers the meeting place of the Hiwassee River and Shooting Creek.
